The bushing of pegholes should be performed when they have become too large as a result of the constant friction of the pegs. A peg that no longer perfectly fits the hole cannot slide properly anymore nor maintain proper tuning.

Pegs are often inadequately shaped or misplaced, impeding smooth tightening of the strings. On baroque instruments, the cone is more obtuse.

The bushing is made of very clear and very hard boxwood. It is essential not to damage the pegbox walls. These are drilled again, then the holes are enlarged using a reamer after touching up the varnish and preparing the new pegs.
